Meghalaya was formed under Assam as an autonomous state on April 2, 1970. Meghalaya came into existence on 21 January 1972 as a full state. Its northern and eastern borders meet Assam and the southern and western borders of Bangladesh. It is about 11 km from Shillong every year. Remembered Smile is celebrated in the village of Nam. Shad Minceem is another important festival of the specialty. This festival is celebrated in Shillong in the second week of April every year. Behidinkhalam is the most important and happy festival of Jaintia Adivasis. It is usually celebrated in Jovai town of Jaintia Hills in the month of July. Garo tribals celebrate Vanga fair in October-November in honor of their god Salzong (Sun God). This festival lasted for a week.
